American Canvas and Awning, a family-owned business in San Francisco for more than 100 years, designs, fabricates and installs commercial grade awnings and canopies (both retractable and fixed), fabric ceilings, and custom canvas shade structures and curtains.
We use high quality materials and provide our time-tested knowledge of proper design and construction techniques. We offer experienced awning and canopy design, industrial strength sewing and fabric welding, and quality metal fabrication. Contractors and business owners prefer the heavier gauge galvanized steel that Tim McGill uses, and the fully butt welded joints and UV resistant long-wearing Tenara® thread for better (more durable) awnings at a slight additional cost.
What Our Clients Are Saying
"American Awning did more than the canopies at Marin Suites. When our president wanted an artistic, tent-like effect in our outdoor lobby to create a feeling of sanctuary, Tim McGill did a great job... responsive, timely, and certainly reasonably priced. I recommend them."
– Steve Scheck, Marin Suites
"The landlord at Pier 39 has rigorous quality standards, and American Canvas and Awning met and exceeded them with a full storefront of complicated awnings on a tight time table. Very skilled and proficient crew and very competitive pricing. I had a great experience and I recommend them."
– James Hutton, Players Sports Grill, Pier 39
We now have the latest technology of fabric welding.
We are equipped with a hot wedge fabric welder for truly waterproof seams. We do all our main sheet seams so there is no leakage. It also eliminates ugly thread lines that break down with UV light.
